New affordable housing to be built in Morinville

The $10.7 million housing project will see 48 new units built in the area.

The province has invested in new affordable living spaces, which include, one, two and three bedroom units in Morinville ensuring that families remain close to their community.

“All Albertans need a safe and affordable place to call home. We have heard from Albertans that projects like the Morinville Affordable Housing project are especially needed in smaller and rural communities. Our government is helping ensure Morinville area residents with low income do not have to leave the community they love,” said seniors and housing minister, Lori Sigurdson.

The Town of Morinville has invested $700,000 and donated the land towards the project. The new units will be managed by Homeland Housing, a local housing provider.

“We take great pride in our role in this innovative collaboration. This partnership is a significant investment in the overall development of a more complete community,” said Town of Morinville mayor, Barry Turner.

The apartment complex will be ready by summer 2020.

The Alberta Government has committed to building and restoring 4,100 affordable housing units via the Provincial Affordable Housing Strategy.
