Community speaks out over fate of Innisfree school

The entire community of Innisfree has recently voiced their concerns following a letter sent out on October 23 from Buffalo Trails Public School (BTPS) Board Chair Darcy Eddleston, to parents of Innisfree’s Delnorte School students, outlining the Board’s concern in the “downward trend in enrolment” at the School.

The letter stated that the decline in the number of students attending the School over the past few years, it is having a significant impact on the Board’s ability to provide quality programming to students. Over the ten years the school has been able to maintain between 80 to 90 students.

However, for the 2018-2019 school year the enrolment now sits at 70 students in its grades 1 to 12 classes. The letter outlined that while the significant drop is worrisome, it is the enrolment at the grades 1, 2 and 3 levels that are of most concern.

With only nine students enrolled at those grade levels, it is the predicted total enrolment of the school over time, is of “grave concern” for the Board…
