EIPS celebrates PATs results
Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) students have out performed provincial averages.
EIPS recently received the 2018/19 Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) results, released by Alberta Education province-wide. The results show EIPS Grade 6 and Grade 9 students outperforming the provincial averages in all subjects at the Acceptable Standard category and almost all subjects at the Standard of Excellence Category.
“We’re absolutely thrilled with the results released by Alberta Education,” said Trina Boymook, EIPS board chair. “What’s most impressive is how well students are doing in the areas of literacy and numeracy. Both are life skills and developing competency in these areas serves students well, now and throughout their life.”
Categories that Grade 6 and 9 students scored high in include, English language arts, French language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.
“The PAT results are a great resource for us because they help us understand student achievement in the respective programs,” added Boymook. “We continually review these results and use the data to inform the Board, administration, schools and staff about the areas we are doing well in, the areas we need to improve on and decisions relating to resource allocations. The goal, of course, is to use the information to then identify areas we need to focus on to ensure students continue to achieve at high levels.”
This particular test provides a glimpse at student achievement in various curricula from the Alberta programs of study in Grade 6 English language arts, French language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The same goes for Grade 9 students with the addition of related Knowledge and Employability courses.
