UPDATED: Emergency crews put out fire at Shell Scotford

Crews worked all morning to contain an upgrader fire just outside of Fort Saskatchewan.

Strathcona County Emergency Services along with Shell Canada Limited responded to the fire at Shell Scotford’s upgrader when the site assembly alarm went off around 8:45 a.m. on Monday, April 15, as stated in a release from a spokesperson for the company.

Personnel were relocated away from the scene as a safety precaution.

At 10:30 a.m. Shell Scotford Tweeted an update on the situation.

At 11:30 a.m. Shell reported via Facebook , “crews from Strathcona County, Fort Saskatchewan and our site are making progress in putting out the fire. We’re grateful for their efforts. No injuries have been reported at this time. More information will be provided on this page as it is available.”

By 12:10 p.m. a spokesperson with Shell Canada Limited provided an update saying, “the fire has been put out and crews remain on scene. Everyone is accounted for and no injuries have been reported.”

Road blocks still remained set up at the entrances to the site on TWP RD 560A at RR 214 and RR 220 at TWP RD 554.
