Extreme cold warning returns for much of Alberta

Those dangerously cold temperatures are back.

Environment Canada issued an extreme cold warning for most of the province on Sunday, February 24.

The warning is in affect for areas such as Fort Saskatchewan, Vegreville, Bruderheim, Redwater, Gibbons, Sherwood Park, Lamont and surrounding areas, excluding Edmonton as of 9 p.m.

Windchills of -40 C are expected as an Arctic airmass moves into Alberta overnight.

Throughout Monday, February 25, windchills will be in the -20 C area but by Tuesday morning that windchill value will return to -40 C for many areas of the province.

This extreme cold snap should see relief by Wednesday afternoon.

With this cold weather comes frost bite, which can develop within minutes on exposed skin.

Also watch for cold related symptoms which include shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness/colour change in your fingers/toes.
