The College’s newest program will have students job ready in four months.

The Barber certificate program launches this fall and will enable students to learn hair design, haircutting, styling, grooming and shaving. Upon completion they will be able to initiate a career as a barber, barbershop owner, mobile barber, barber salesperson, etc.

“Lakeland College’s barber program offers a fresh approach to the re-emerging barber sector in the hairstyling
industry,” said Janice Aughey, dean of the School of Health, Wellness and Human Services. “With our experienced and
talented instructors, students will gain confidence and aptitude while working with real clients and perfecting their
skills. We’re excited to expand our health and wellness programs with this in-demand program.”

Students will work with real clients during the 147 hours of public clinic time they will acquire in the campus salon. Those who graduate from Lakeland’s barber program will qualify to complete Alberta’s barber apprenticeship program. They will need 1,450 hours of on-the-job training with an employer before writing the journeyperson exam. After that you can continue onto earn a blue seal.

The college also offers hairstyling certificate, esthetician and clinical esthetician.
