New K-6 school officially opens in Sherwood Park today
Construction began on Heritage Hills Elementary in 2018 and has been completed for the 2020/21 school year.
The school sits in Sherwood Park’s Heritage Hills neighbourhood and consists of an integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) system, which helps harness solar power. It is the division’s first school to use this technology. It will cater to roughly 470 students in kindergarten to Grade 6.
Today’s celebrations are invitation only, due to COVID-19 restrictions. School families and others interested can watch the ceremony and have a tour online by clicking here.
The ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. today. Viewers can expect speeches from Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) board chair, Trina Boymook, EIPS First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education Advisor, Jeremy Albert and other dignitaries.
