Province recognizes local AG society members

Members of the Lamont, Chipman, Andrew and St. Michael Agricultural Societies recently attended an awards banquet in Edmonton.

The Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies held their annual convention from January 30 – February 2. It was there that two members of the Lamont and District Agricultural Society were recognized for their contributions to local and provincial involvement in the agriculture industry.

Terry Eleniak and his daughter, Kelsey Eleniak both took home awards that night.

Terry was awarded outstanding supporter of agriculture. He volunteers with the Lamont and District Agricultural Society and was recognized for his efforts on a provincial level through his work as Lamont County’s Agricultural Fieldman. He has volunteered to set up new rodeo grounds, plans the Bullarama Supreme and Summer Sizzler Rodeo. He was also instrumental in initiating the Livestock Emergency Trailer program within the county and is an advocate for farm safety and leadership skills for youth through the 4-H program.

Kelsey Eleniak was awarded the agricultural scholarship for her achievements in school and her community. The $1500 scholarship helps offset tuition costs as she finishes her Animal Science diploma at Lakeland College in Vermillion. She also spends time as a coach in both volleyball and skating. She is the third of her siblings to receive the scholarship.

2012 recipient of the AAAS Scholarship said, “It has been very exciting to see multiple recipients of Lamont Ag Society be recognized through the scholarship program. It shows the strength of our society’s ability to help build leaders for the future of our community and the Ag industry,” said Rebecca Joseph.

There have been roughly six recipients of the AAAS Scholarhsip within the last 10 years. They are as follows.

• 2018- Ainsley Lopushinsky

• 2020- Kelsey Eleniak
