In celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope, Fred Fox, who is Terry Fox’s older brother is touring the world.

Last week, Fox stopped by Fultonvale Elementary Junior High, James Mowat Elementary, Lakeland Ridge and Pine Street Elementary. He discussed Terry’s legacy, determination and dedication in fulfilling his dream of raising money for Cancer research. Then Fox joined the students for their runs.

“Mr. Fox told us Terry never gave up, he kept on trying, “said Freya Jordan, a Grade 3 student at Fultonvale Elementary Junior High. “And he usually reached his goals because he always kept trying!”

While talking to students, Fox retold a message his mother would tell schools around the country as she carried on Terry’s legacy: “Just like Terry, set goals, always work hard and never, ever give up on your dreams.” Every step, donation and act of support help carry Terry’s message forward honouring his legacy while challenging us all to live out his dream in our own lives.

“We are so excited Fred Fox visited our schools. His words and actions help give students the motivation to chase their own dreams,” said Cathy Allen, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS), Board Chair. “Terry’s bravery and perseverance continue to inspire every student, employee and community member to work together for a better future.”

EIPS was one of over 10,000 schools across Canada that took part in a Terry Fox School Run last week.

The Terry Fox School Run was founded in 1981. It has grown into one of the largest fundraising events in Canada and has raised more than $950 million to date and funded 1,300 projects.

Last year EIPS schools raised roughly $64,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Since starting their fundraising efforts in 1992, the division has raised more than $900,000.
