Vegreville welcomes new Fire Chief

The Town of Vegreville held their regular council meeting on February 10, where council approved administrations recommendation to appoint Chris Jardine as the town’s new fire chief.

Jardine has served with the Vegreville Fire Department for eighteen years and has acted as Deputy Fire Chief since 2010.

The town states that “he steps into the position with a robust understanding of the department’s operations. His familiarity with the town means he’s already build strong relationships with the community and members of the Fire Department, which positions him well to succeed in his new position.”

Jardine also acts as a Primary Care Paramedic and Direct Supervisor of Alberta Health Services.

He will take over for Phil Rowe who has been the town’s Fire Chief for the past four years. He will remain at the Town as the Community Services Director, which is in charge of the Fire Services within the town.

During his time with the fire department, Rowe aided in the creation of a leadership plan to develop officers and future department leaders. Rowe also initiated a new training centre plan to train new firefighters.

“It’s been an honour to serve our community as Fire Chief, and I’m proud to leave it in Chris’ capable hands. I’m very excited to continue work with Chief Jardine to keep our community safe,” said Rowe.

The official transfer of command ceremony will take place at the fire hall at 7 p.m. February 12.
