To mark 730 days of Ukrainian resistance, the Town of Vegreville will hold a candlelight vigil at the Vegreville Cultural Association on February 24.

Everyone is welcome to attend this Saturday at 6 p.m. (Doors open at 5:30 p.m.) Those who attend will pay “tribute to the courage of the Ukrainian people, honour the memory of thousands of civilians and armed forces who have perished and build hope for the future of Ukraine and all Ukrainians,” as stated in the town’s press release.

There will be a live video feed with a battalion on the eastern front. Those who plan to attend are encouraged to wear embroidered clothing, bring flags and light battery powered candles.

“On February 24, 2022, Russia began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine that has since resulted in the death of thousands and displacement of millions of Ukrainians within and beyond their home country,” the town’s press release stated.
